A proper rarity in cultivation and potentially in its native Southern Spain if the extremes of climate change keep occurring! As the guy who sent me this seed said; “sometimes a plant’s best hope of survival is to get it into cultivation”, so here we are!
Hugely drought tolerant plant, loves a good xeriscape, I’m growing in very gritty mix.. peat-free composts are naturally more neutral - alkaline, so that’s what to go for (no peat).
Soft barbie pink hibiscus-like flowers in summer, attractive red veining on petals, smaller flowers than on popular forms of lavatera, but nicer because of that. Eventually forms a shrub 4-6ft. Leaves delightfully grey and fuzzy in typical drought hardy fashion!
This is a new one to me so I’ll be testing winter hardiness, I suggest you keep it under cover over winter and above freezing (on the dry side obvs) and then see how you get on once you’ve managed to prop a few back-ups.
