One of the first plants I fell in love with on my trip to the fynbos in South Africa. I watched this bird and many others, come down and fill their boots with the softest white floof the whole plant produces after flowering (in winter). They use it to line their nests and I can only imagine the beautiful aromatic softness the chicks hatch into!
The whole plant is a fragrant beast, with soft, silverfish leaves on arching stems up to a meter or so. illions of white flowers anoint the shrub in winter, producing these delightful fluff clusters in spring.
This shrub probably wonβt be hardy enough to survive out wet cold winters, but she can take the cold down to freezing, so should be ok in an unheated tunnel and a bit of fleece if kept on the dry side over winter. Sheβs VERY drought tolerant, so a brilliant one for pot displays, where her scent in summer will enrich any patio area!
